Description

This is the second shot I took during my six days in Vila Nova de Gaia. I was delighted to find this scene only a minute's walk from my lodgings. These are the warehouses in Vila Nova de Gaia where Port wine is stored. Historically the wine was shipped up the river Duoro in boats that you can still see today (but not in this gigapan - TBD). The shot was taken with the idea of creating a VR image (as used to be supported by Gigapan's View in Google Earth facility) to throw the emphasis onto the hugeness of this storage facility. As a 'flat' gigapan the shot doesn't work like that and it seems I was not paying enough attention to the focal depth because the focus on the buildings in Porto (on the opposite side of the river) is a bit soft. Never mind! I will create my own alternative to View in Google Earth (one day :-) and as for the buildings, they will appear in other gigapans to come.

In the absence of the geolocator (also now defunct) there is this: goo.gl/wNSJtF Will open in a new tab or window
There is a close-up of the buildings across the river here: www.gigapan.com/gigapans/196463

I didn't realise the utility of being able to access Street View until you pointed it out. And when I tried it using the link I gave I realised the geolocation was wrong! The new link takes you to a place a few hundred metres down the hill from the previous location and is correct to within a metre.

To be honest, I am not sure I know :-) I recall fumbling with Google's map services and ending up with a link that looked liked it might do something useful in lieu of the defunct geo page. But I will certainly try and do the same for the next shot.

This is a cool gigapan in that your "geolocator" link is most useful ... it provides a satellite view PLUS a street view. In your next gigapan to be uploaded, you may want to describe how the rest of us can do this impressive feat. Once you tell us how, I will go back and add this feature to previous panoramas.
